They don't even try to attract these metal looking trinkets. So not magnetic in properties, so not steel. I have some steel rulers that I have clamped / mounted to a surface and said lights attach upside down to said thing without issue. I even combine one or more lights to a single steel ruler and venture outside after dark for trash pickup and mail I might bump or drop said ruler, and the lights detach, but otherwise they are good and do well. But have no attraction to these key ring plates. They look good and serve for the function I wanted.
